How to find a hiring manager’s email (and name) on LinkedIn
By the LeadsPaw team · Last updated
First work out who the hiring manager is: check the job post’s “Meet the hiring team” section, or search the company’s People tab for the role the job reports to. Then find their email in their LinkedIn posts, their About section or Contact info, or by applying the company’s email pattern to their name.
Hiring manager, recruiter or HR: who to contact
The hiring manager is the person the new hire will report to, and the one who makes the final decision. A recruiter or HR contact runs the process. If you can reach the hiring manager, do: one good email can move you from the pile to a conversation. If you can only find the recruiter, see our guide to HR and recruiter emails.
Step 1: Find the hiring manager’s name
Check “Meet the hiring team” on the job post
Many LinkedIn job posts show a Meet the hiring team section with the person who posted the job. Sometimes it’s a recruiter, but on smaller teams it’s often the hiring manager. Either way, it’s a named person tied to this exact role.
Search the company’s People tab by title
Work out who the role reports to, then search for that title on the company’s LinkedIn page under People:
| If the job is… | Search the People tab for… |
|---|---|
| Software engineer | Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, CTO (startups) |
| Marketing specialist | Marketing Manager, Head of Marketing |
| Sales rep | Sales Manager, Head of Sales |
| Designer | Design Lead, Head of Design |
| Data analyst | Analytics Manager, Head of Data |
Filter by the job’s location if the company is large. At a company of a few dozen people, the founder or CEO is often the hiring manager.
Look for “my team is hiring” posts
Hiring managers often announce openings themselves. In LinkedIn search, choose the Posts tab and try:
"my team is hiring" AND "Company Name""we're hiring" AND "data analyst" AND "Company Name"
Sort by Latest. A manager who posted about the role is the best possible contact, and these posts often include an email address.
Step 2: Find their email
- Their posts. Open their profile, go to Activity → Posts, and check recent hiring posts for an address (“send me your CV at …”).
- Their About section. Managers who hire often list an email for candidates and partners.
- Contact info. Click it under their name. It’s usually visible only to connections, so send a short connection request if it’s empty.
- The company email pattern. Find any employee’s address in public (company website, press release, a colleague’s post), then apply the same format to the manager’s name, such as
first.last@company.com. This is a guess, so double-check it before relying on it.
Email Finder for LinkedIn automates steps 1–3 across many people: search for titles like Engineering Manager or Head of Marketing, optionally filter posts by the “Hiring” intent, and it collects the emails people have published, ready to export.
What to send a hiring manager
Hiring managers care about whether you can do the job, not about the application process. Lead with the role and one piece of proof.
Subject: Data Analyst role: built the dashboards that run Acme’s weekly sales review
Hi Daniel,
I’ve applied for the Data Analyst role on your team. At Acme I built the Power BI dashboards our sales leadership uses every week, and I noticed your post mentioned rebuilding reporting this quarter. That’s the work I enjoy most.
Happy to share examples. Would a 15-minute call next week be useful?
Best,
Sam
- Under 120 words, with no attachments beyond your CV.
- Mention something specific to their team or post, so it’s obviously not a mass email.
- Follow up once, about a week later, then leave it.
Finding the hiring manager’s name for a cover letter
The same steps work when you only need a name for “Dear …”. If you can’t confirm it, “Dear Hiring Manager” or “Dear [Team] Hiring Team” is fine. A wrong name is worse than none.
